I want to experience the Lanzones Festival in Camiguin

The Philippines is a country rich in culture and festivities. It is general knowledge that most Philippine festivals were traditionally started 300 years during Spanish Colonization Period.  But, there are also festivals originally rooted from the Philippine local culture and legends as well.   The Lanzones Festival in Camiguin is one of them.   Have you heard of it yet? 


The Lanzones Festival began in the early 1980's as a thanks giving day for the annual harvest of the Lanzones Fruit.  Camiguin produces and exports the best sweet golden Lanzones in the country.  Although there are also other agricultural products, their Lanzones harvest is their main source of livelihood.

There are different legends about the origin of the festival.  According to one rural legend, there was once a couple who wished for a child from the Lanzones tree spirit.  Their wish was granted but they forgot to show gratitude so the spirit enchanted their boy.  In order to revive their son, they conducted a ritual to appease the spirit.  This gave way to the festival which became Camiguin's most famous.  Another legend tells about how a beautiful mysterious maiden took from the Lanzones its bitter flavor and leaving only its sweet and luscious taste.  Perhaps, there are more details about these which I can ask when I visit.

During the festival, there will be a street dancing parade and competition highlighting their rich culture, tradition and the Lanzones fruit.  I want to join and be part of the festival and feel their culture.  I 'm very eager to see how they dance, hear their music, see the colors and designs of the their traditional fashion and eat their local delicacies.  I also want to enjoy their delicious Lanzones fruit to my hearts desire.  


Festivals are not the only thing worth visiting in Camiguin.  There are also beautiful beaches, waterfalls, cold spring and hot spring where you can relax.  They also have the famous Camiguin Pastel.  It is a bun will different fillings like "Yema".  


While searching for more information about Camiguin and the Lanzones Festival,  I found out that I was not the only one interested in attending.  In fact, a lot of tourists from all parts of the world want to come and join the fun too but there are only a few information offered online about it.  If given the chance, I want to experience the Lanzones Festival this October and share it with you and the rest of the world.  

My Top 3 Dream Philippine Spots

Our country is so beautiful that there are so many places I want to go to.  But I never had the chance because I'm still don't have the budget so all I can do is dream away until I graduate. 


I want to share with you my top 3 dream Philippine spots.

1. Bohol

I want to meet the Tarsiers, Bryde's whale, flying lemur and dolphins.  I want to visit the chocolate hills,Mahogany man-made forest, Loboc floating restaurant, Alona Beach, and Busay Falls.


2. Puerto Princesa, Palawan

I want to observe the crocodiles at the croc farm, the birds from Rizal Park and dolphins at Puerto Princesa Bay.  I want to explore the beautiful beaches and the Underground River.  


3. Bellarocca Island, Marinduque

I want to relax and enjoy the serene views at Bellaroca Island Resort Spa.  I can imagine myself lying down sipping some drinks while enjoying the cool breeze of fresh air.  I also would love to go kayaking or swim at the infinity pool or beach.

Our purchases from Philips 55th Anniversary Nationwide Sale

All items are really at 55% off at any department store.   We were so happy!  We could finally replace our rice cooker.  We also bought a spare blender and a new kettle.

Our Runner's World Philippines Running Clinic July 2011 Part 1 Experience

I previously mentioned about Runner's World Philippines Running Clinic July 2011. (see separate entry)  Despite having a bad cold, I couldn't pass up this chance.  We woke up early to attend the Runner's World Running Clinic part 1 at MOA.

After the 1 KM warm-up run around MOA by the bay, we returned to the venue.  There was one tent for the registration and another for the Gatorade station.  We were each given a bottle of Gatorade.  We were given a choice whether it was "Bolt Blue" or the red one.  Most of us chose the "Bolt Blue".
When we arrived, the runners were already getting ready for the warm-up run.  Since it was raining, there were only few participants who joined the activity.

Our coach for the day was Coach Nina from David's Salon who is a sky runner.  She runs up mountains with 100 KM distance.

After our Gatorade break for 5 minutes, we begun our stretching exercises.  Since we were few, Coach Nina really paid attention on how we do the exercises.  We were corrected accordingly.  I felt all my muscles stretch from leg up to my back and shoulders.
It rained really hard so I had to bail out while Kurt and the others sprinted in the rain.  It looked fun but I couldn't risk getting another flu especially its my law midterms week.

There was another Gatorade break which was simultaneous with our lecture.  We were briefed about Gatorade.   We also discovered the difference between an energy drink and a sports drink.  Sports drinks include mind enhancements so they contain caffeine.  A lot of other topics were also discussed like types of feet and running shoes.


As soon as the rain stopped, we were given mats to be laid down the floor.  We then proceeded to the core exercises.  Most of the exercises target the abs.

After the core exercises, the class was dismissed.  We were given a FREE copy of runner's world magazine and a Gatorade ID lace.  Early birds were rewarded their 150 php David's Salon Gift Certificate.

Overall, the event was successful and fun.  I'm so glad that Runner's World and Gatorade organized this event.  It's better to have actual instructors or trainers in doing the exercises so you know if you're doing them right.  It's difficult if you just watch it in the video or read it in magazines.

Eiga Sai 2011 Japanese Film Festival in Shangrila, Davao, Cebu and UP

I really want to watch atleast one film at Eiga Sai 2011 Japanese Film Festival.  I've always been a fan of Japanese Dramas and Movies.  You'll notice I have a long list of Asian Drama at "My Watchlist" page.  But  I also have to study.  I've been in a confused and slack state every since the start of the school year and I have to catch up for the midterms.

Mickey's Delicatessen at Jupiter Makati Closed Down

We've always loved eating at Mickey's Delicatessen.  They have the serve the best sausages.  So when we saw Mickey's Delicatessen being offered at Cashcashpinoy.com at 50% off, we immediately bought one. The expiration date was even until Aug 31, 2011.

I've always been cautious when availing coupon deals.  When I purchased the deal I thought it was one of the best ones I could have availed off.  It was a well-known establishment.  But when we went there last June, we were surprised that it was closed down already.  We asked its neighboring establishment and they told us they were all surprised too.  One day, all the employees just never showed.  It never opened again.  Funny, because last food expo at the World Trade Center, they were was of the food concessionaires and we even bought their sausages.  We didn't buy a lot because we were hoping to purchase via coupon.  We didn't expect that to be our last batch of sausages from Mickey's. =(

I was so disappointed that I emailed Cashcashpinoy.com about it.  I received a reply from Catherine of Cashcashpinoy.com stating that they too were not aware of it and offered a refund wherein the processing will be 30 to 45 days.  I agreed since the coupon was worthless to me already.  I admire Cashcashpinoy.com's honesty because they investigated on the matter and later on emailed me to confirm that Mickey's Delicatessen has closed down.  After giving them my refund details, the money was refunded to my account within the period promised.


      I learned two things about this:

1. A coupon purchase being an advance payment transaction is risky despite precautions
2. For my future transactions, it is better purchase from responsible Coupon Deal sites like Cashcashpinoy.com because imagine if my money was not refunded then my money would've gone down the drain

Here are my tips for you:

1. Don't play during/after the rain unless you want to enjoy the mud and have fog on your googles
