Juicy Lucy - Who Do You Love, The Anthology (69-71 uk blues hard rock - Wave audio format)

This 19 track anthology by late '60s early '70s British blues rockers Juicy Lucy features covers of Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love", Chuck Berry's "Nadine" and the classic "Built For Comfort".

Sanctuary's release of Who Do You Love: The Anthology by rootsy English hard rock and blues band Juicy Lucy, which contains all three of their three proper albums (Juicy Lucy, Lie Back And Enjoy It, and Get A Whiff A This) is proof positive that they'll reissue anything.

Juicy Lucy did score with a remake of Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love", which was a vehicle for slide guitarist Glenn Ross Campbell, on their 1969 debut, but that was about it (these days one hit single would never guarantee a second, let alone third, album).

The band was formed after the Misunderstood - a fine British blues and rock band who never received their proper due - dissolved.

The bottom line is that Juicy Lucy was more a covers band than anything else, though Campbell and the band wrote a few songs, as well.

The covers range from Chuck Berry's "Nadine" to Willie Dixon's "Built For Comfort"; from Gregg Allman's "Midnight Rider" to the Frank Zappa tune "Willie the Pimp"! ( ... ) (by Thom Jurek)

Fox - San Francisco Session (1969-1970 us hard rock and hard blues psychedelic - RD remaster edition with 02 bonus tracks - MP3 320K and FLAC)

An unreleased album from this post-Day Blindness band, recorded in 1969/70. This album is a heavy bluesy psychedelic masterpiece of the highest order.

It is virtually the second Day Blindness album with slight personnel changes, but musically in a more heavy psychedelic direction.

The lead guitarist Gary Pihl is well known today for being the guitar player of Boston.

Here he plays an amazing psychedelic guitar and it reminds us in parts of the mighty Mariani's Perpetuum Mobile album.

Superb bass guitar by Johnny V. Vernazza and crazy drums by Roy Garcia, who later went to play with the legendary band Gold (of Rockadelic Records fame!).

Only one 45 single was ever released of those fantastic sessions on Studio 10, and the single is mega rare these days.

A treasure lost at the time that we are very pleased to present to you today. CD features 2 long (17 minutes!!!) bonus tracks."

Track List:
01.Susie S. Kalator
02.Sun City
03.I Can't Take It

Ashkan - In From The Cold (1970 uk hard blues rock - MP3 320K and WAV)

This was the first album released on Decca's progressive Nova label.

Co-produced by Peter Sherter and Ian Sippin, much of the album bears an uncanny resemblance to early Spooky Tooth.

Propelled by Bailey's hoarse vocal growl and the band's penchant for screaming guitars, this comparison is reinforced on tracks such as Going Home, Take These Chains and Out Of Us Two.

Elsewhere Bailey sounds like Joe Cocker on Practically Never Happens, while Bob Weston's Slightly Country sounds like it was stolen from the early Steve Winwood and Traffic catalogue.

With the exception of the pedestrian blues number Backlash Blues the album, but including the extended Darkness, is worth hearing.

We're shallow enough to admit the weird cover is what initially attracted our attention to this obscure LP ... there was just something odd about seeing four "hip" looking guys standing in a wheat field in front of an ancient windmill ... wonder if the recorded the album in Holland ? Are there windmills in England?

First off, we'll tell you numerous critics have slagged the album as being ordinary and unimaginative.

We'll take issue with them and tell you it's actually an overlooked minor classic. Featuring the talents of singer Steve Bailey, bassist Ron Bending, drummer Terry Sims and guitarist Bob Weston,

Besides, had Gary Wright and Spooky Tooth released something this good, it would have been a massive success ...

One Of Us Two:

Track List:
01 - Going Home
02 - Take These Chains
03 - Stop (Wait and Listen)
04 - Backlash Blues
05 - Practically Never Happens
06 - One Of Us Two
07 - Slightly Country
08 - Darkness

Personnel:
Steve Bailey – Vocals
Ron Bending – Bass, Vocals
Terry Sims – Percussion, Drums
Bob Weston – Guitar, Vocals, Mandolin

Mad Dog - 617 (1977 us, heavy blues and hard rock - MP3 320K and WAV)

The group was formed in Bay City Michigan in 1973 and consisted of Robert Charlebois (born in Bay City in 1957) on lead vocals, guitar, piano, harp and sax,Joe Charlebois (born in Bay City in 1954) on drums and backing vocals, and Don Langenburg (born in Bay City in 1949) on bass guitar.

The group had a melting pot of influences which included the Motown sound, English blues, American blues and metal, as well as the great rock-n-roll bands coming out of
Detroit in the late 1960's.

In 1974, Mad Dog was asked to open for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and MC5 at the Skidway Lake Music Festival.

The band played all original material and was making a name for itself.

In 1975 the group was again asked to open for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band in Saginaw, Mi. at a club called Hidden Hollow.

In 1976 Mad Dog recorded its first album.

After a trip to New York and a slew of rejection letters from the major labels, the band released the record in 1977.

The album received airplay and made numerous college radio station playlists during 1977 -1978.

Commercial radio was not into music this heavy at the time.

Distribution was a problem and the internet did not exist.

Indie labels were few and far between.

Mad Dog recorded its 2nd album in 1980 and so far it has not been released.

After slugging it out for ten years playing up to 250 dates a year, the band broke up in 1983.

Track List:

Stone The Crows - Ontinuous Performance (1972 scottish hard/blues rock, 1997 Repertoire reissue - MP3 320K and FLAC)

Much of Ontinuous Performance (and no, there's no C in there) was already in the can when guitarist Les Harvey was tragically electrocuted onstage on May 3, 1972.

The band brought in young guitar wiz Jimmy McCullough (ex-Thunderclap Newman) to take his place, but really, in a band like this, no one could have filled his shoes — a listen to Harvey's guitar work on the instrumental "King Tut" shows how far he'd come, and how integral his particular style of playing was to the band's sound.

Ironically, out of tragedy came a brief moment of success, as "Good Time Girl," released as a single (and, except for gender, it was a perfect Rod Stewart song) hit #12 on the U.K. singles chart.

But there was also a return to their blues roots with the acoustic "Penicillin Blues," while "One More Chance" offered Maggie Bell an opportunity to show her soulful vocal chops.

However, they blew it during the nine minutes of "Niagara," a piece that, it sounded, was never finished before release.

It was would have impossible for the band to let go of Harvey without a song, and it comes at the end of the disc, the ballad "Sunset Cowboy," which is touching and heartfelt. After this disc the disheartened band broke up.

Stone The Crows - Penicillin Blues

Track list:
01. On The Highway (Harvey, Leahy) – 5:32
02. One More Chance (Leahy) – 6:10
03. Penicillin Blues (Terry, McGhee) – 5:30
04. King Tut (Harvey, Leahy) – 2:37
05. Good Time Girl (Allen, Bell, Thompson, Leahy) – 3:25
06. Niagara (Leahy) – 9:12
07. Sunset Cowboy (Allen, Leahy) – 6:42

Stone The Crows:
*Maggie Bell – vocals
*Colin Allen – drums
*Ronnie Leahy – keyboards
*Steve Thompson – bass
*Jimmy McCulloch — guitar

Yuya Uchida & The Flowers - Challenge! (1968 japan psychedelic, heavy psych blues and hard rock - FLAC)

The band was initially started as a side-project by Yuya Uchida when he returned to Japan after visiting his friend John Lennon in England in the mid 60s, where he was introduced to various upcoming artists such as Cream, and Jimi Hendrix.

Yuya wanted to introduce their work to a Japanese audience, and formed the "Flowers" as a cover band with various group sounds musicians, and two vocalists; male singer Chiba Hiroshi, and female singer Remi Aso.

They released an album titled Challenge! in 1968, featuring covers of songs by Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother and the Holding Company, in addition to an original song.

The art-work caused a stir in the Japanese media as it depicted each member posing naked.

In 1969, after the release of the album; Remi Aso, and guitarist Katsuhiko Kobayashi relocated to the United States.

Later that year, Yuya recruited Hideki Ishima, Joe Yamanaka, Jun Kobayashi, and previous Flowers member George Wada, and formed the Flower Travellin' Band as a way to produce and explore a new music direction outside his own career (wikipedia).
