Redbone - Redbone (1970, us mix of rock, blues, funk, tribal and cajun music - Wave audio format)

The album "Redbone" by the group Redbone was an outstanding debut for the group.

The double album, a bold move to release a double album for any musical group for their debut, displayed the broad range of musical influence, as well as talent, the four members of the Native-American band had.

Their music had a wide range of influences from rock, funk, blues, cajun as well as their Native American roots.

No big hit songs here.
They would come later, but not much later.
But you can hear the classic sound that would come to be associated with Redbone.

No other group could ever come close to replicating the beat and sound of Redbone.
That's what helped make Redbone so unique.

Redbone I think did help to influence the funk sound that would become so well known during the 70's music scene.

The songs on here are not really radio friendly which could explain why there are no hit songs from the album.

By the time they released their second album, "Potlatch", the songs would be a bit tighter and more accessable to radio.

That doesn't mean though that the songs on "Redbone" aren't great.

They ARE!

I defy anyone to listen to this album and not find themselves getting into the groove and sound of Redbone.

If you have been looking for CD's of Redbone your search is over!

If all you know of Redbone is from their biggest hit "Come And Get Your Love" then you need to get this CD and be exposed to the "King Kong Beat".

If I may I would like to make a suggestion.

If you are going to get "Redbone" then also give consideration to getting, if you don't have it already, "Golden Classics".

"Golden Classics" combines Redbones second and third albums, "Potlatch" and "Message From A Drum" onto one disc.

With these two CDs you would have just about the entire recording of of the original, and I think best, line up of the group: Pat and Lolly Vega, Tony Bellamy and Pete "Last Walking Bear" DePoe.

Then sit back and enjoy some great music! (by Janet from Amazon)
