My uncle and aunt sent this from they home town in Candon City, Ilocos Sur. They are Candon Calamays. There are two types of Candon Calamays: brown and white. I prefer the white because the I find the brown ones too sweet.
Candon Calamays are usually sold in two types of packaging. One is round and flat in plastic sleeves while the other is in coconut shells. Everyone in my family prefer it round and flat because it is easier to eat and you can it ample amount at the time. On the other hand, I like the sensation of digging into sticky calamay inside the opened coconut shell and spooning out the the calamay to eat.
Candon Calamay is my favorite. It is made of white sticky rice, sugar, young coconut strings and coconut milk. I really enjoy its sticky chewy goodness. I'm not sure if it is the best Calamay around but it certainly is one of the best!
