These were a couple of solid latter day releases (1972-1973) for the Grass Roots that are long overdue for CD release.
"MOVE ALONG" is probably the best album, cut for cut, that the post 1967 version of the group ever did.
Only "Glory Bound" (ironically one of the singles) sounds subpar, like a re-cycled "Two Divided by Love"
There are several top-notch songs beyond the hits. Especially "Only One"(Provisor sings his heart out!) "One Word", "Runnin' Just To Get Her Home" and the title song.
*A strange footnote about this album: Vocalist/Keyboardist/Songwriter Dennis Provisor got totally hosed.
During his membership with the band, this release showcases his talents and influence more than any other. He's all over it singing, playing and writing or co-writing over half the songs.
Yet he's not shown on the cover or even mentioned in the credits! You'd think that a little common courtesy would have at least garnered an acknowledgment, even though he left the group shortly after it was recorded.
"ALOTTA MILEAGE" is a keeper (even though it barely charted) but it's a notch down in quality from Move Along. Without Provisor's songs and soulful pipes in the mix, the Grass Roots weren't quite the same and lost a little of their R&B luster and energy.
Longtime & original member Warren Enter gets back on the mic for 3 lead vocals here including a superb cover of the Free song "Little Bit of Love" that comes close to surpassing the original!
Other highlights include "Where There's Smoke There's Fire" and "Ain't No Way To Go Home" (by Charlie bear's).
