My Run and Help Experience at Mc Kinley Hill

Last month, I registered for the Run and Help at Chris Sports (see separate entry).  It was my first time to run at Mc Kinley Hill so I got to the venue early so I can be familiar with the place.

The event was small and simple but it was complete.  There were water stations, baggage stations, portalets, onsite registration, first aid booth and the beneficiary's Cancer Warriors' booth.

Before the start of the race, we performed simple stretching.  Soon, the gun shot was fired indicating the start of the race.

Although I only ran for the 5K category, I felt that this run was the most difficult run I've joined because of the mostly uphill terrain.  A part of it is attributable to the excessive bending I did to pick up trashes during the International Coastal Cleanup (see separate entry) the day before.

Here's what I noticed during the run...

PROS:

  • Great stretching exercises
  • Lots of race marshals
  • Adequate way points
  • Adequate water stations
  • Very organized
  • Great hosting
  • Fast results
CONS:
  • Only 1 race photographer who is positioned at the traffic intersection where runners slow down
  • Glasses were full of water when only half is enough so many waters were left on the street side or spilled on the floor
  • Motor vehicles were allowed to pass along the running track
  • No distance markers

Overall, it was fun and very challenging.  I found the useful running and training tips from the winners very interesting and inspiring.  Everyone was satisfied with the race.

Our Earth Run 2011 BGC Experience

A few weeks ago, we attended the bloggers night at Chris Sports (see separate entry) and we were given complimentary race kits to Earth Run 2011.

Kurt belonged to the 5k category while I belonged in the 3k category.  It was a dark and cloudy day so we were expecting that it would rain but it only drizzled for a short while during the race.  The pavement was a bit wet but we didn't mind.  It was so much fun!  The temperature was just right for running.

There were adequate way points and signs.  There were also sufficient water stations.  I also noticed several ambulances stationed along the way.  However, I was wondering why other transportation were able to enter the running track and runners were not informed to give way to them.

I was out of shape since I was so busy with school that I had stopped training.  Kurt finished slightly ahead of me.  Kurt saw his high school classmate during the run.  We also saw my cousin.

After the race, there was a Pocari Sweat tent distributing cold Pocari Sweat.  I've actually learned to love the taste of Pocari Sweat.  Its sweet and refreshing after runs.=)  There was also a Maynilad water truck that showered passing runners who want to cool off.

We went to claim our baggage and our finishers kit.  There was a long line for the claiming of the 3K giveaway kit.  The line took some time before it moved too so it was blocking the entrance towards the tent areas.  The giveaway kit's contents depends on the race category.  For example, I had the baller while Kurt had a Ceres Green apple juice.  There were FREE fans given away by Deloitte.  There were also Cherifer Premium samples being handed out.  The organizers were very generous with raffle prizes.  Among the prizes were Ideal Vision optical glasses, Phil Care "We Care" and "Yes" cards and Solomon gift certificates.  The winners are so lucky.

On the downside, the tent area is too far from the starting point or finishing line.  The area was also too small that it could not cater all the runners.

Kudos to the guy who honestly returned someone's fat wallet.  I seem to have forgotten his name which he mentioned when he was called on-stage.=(

Overall, it was a good and organized run.  However, I think the post-race organization could still be improved.   I would also like to commend the immediate release of the results.=)

I really love to run.=)  Its now my favorite sport.

After the event, we walked to Shih Tzu Seminar For a Cause (see separate entry).

Bloggers were happily chatting with each other.   They also introduced the new "On-Running" shoe that I previously mentioned (see separate entry).   Prizes were also given.  I was given a 1,000 worth gift certificate for the "On-running" shoe and a Chris Sports privilege card.  Can't wait to use these for my next shoe.=)

There was also a registration for the two great fun runs: "2nd Avenue Earth Run Manila 2011" and "Run for Help".

If you haven't registered yet.  You still can still register for these two run online and at official registration sites.
  • The 2nd Avenue Earth Run Manila 2011 is now on its 3rd consecutive year.  This year, your registration fee will be donated to Greenpeace.  According to their website "Greenpeace, is an international environmental organization that acts to change attitudes and behavior, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. Here in the Philippines, the organization and its supporters are focused on promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency, a nuclear-free Pilipinas, and keeping waterways clean."

  • Run for Help has chosen Cancer Warriors Foundation (CWF) as the sole beneficiary. CWF is an aims to helping children fight cancer at an early age.

So whichever run you chose between the two, you know that you're running for a good cause.  Hope to see you there!=)
