The Fool (1969) is an obscure piece of music history centering around a quartet of Dutch multimedia artists, Simon Kooer, Marijke Kooer, Josje Leeger, and Barry Finch.

Their earliest clientele included model Patti Boyd Harrison Clapton (aka "Layla"), whose psychedelic gear caught the eye of Daily Mirror fashion editor Felicity Green.

One of their more high-profile gigs involved decorating for the Beatles, including the entire side of the Fab Four's short-lived Apple boutique on Baker Street in London, as well as a Rolls-Royce and grand piano for John Lennon.

They also designed some of the era's most notable LP jackets, including the Incredible String Band's 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion (1967), the Move's self-titled debut album (1968), and the Hollies' Evolution (1967).

Undoubtedly, it was the connection with the latter that resulted in Graham Nash's involvement as producer on this collection.

Musically, the Fool often resemble the far-out folk of the aforementioned Incredible String Band. This is especially the case with the choral lead vocals on "Fly" and "Reincarnation," blending Eastern philosophy with a distinct delivery style similar to that of an English ballad.

"Rainbow Man" is an edgier rocker driven by a solid Bo Diddley rhythm, while the acoustic guitars give the number a rural and freewheelin' feeling.

"No One Will Ever Know" stands out with its interminably catchy uptempo melody, while the trippy vocals from Marijke and Josje have an oddly hypnotic effect.

The slinky soulful "Keep On Pushin'" is an extended instrumental that may include an uncredited Nash, whose harmonica blows are challenged by an equally impassioned bagpipe solo.

While hopelessly dated, The Fool is fun for inclined parties and worth searching for (by Lindsay Planer).

The Band - Academy Of Outtakes, The Genuine Rock Of Ages (2000 canadian country psych folk rock, unauthorized 2CDs edition - MP3 320K and FLAC)

2CD Band bootleg released on the Wild Wolf label in 2000, with tracks from 1971 live recordings and rehearsal tapes.



All previously unreleased/ uncirculated according to this "ad" for the CDs:

Incredible 33-track, superb quality from master reel sources.



Another fab Wild Wolf set with 25 previously unreleased/uncirculating performances from the NY City, Academy of Music, December 28-31, 1971/72 gigs that spawned Rock of Ages - but no overlap with that one.



Plus a terrific 8-song rehearsal from UltraSonic Studios, Long Island, in Dec 1971, also uncirculating & in primo sound.

Beautifully dressed up color glossy set w/vintage Band pics (6) spread throughout a 3-panel gatefold paper sleeve and classic color live shot from the Academy on back cover.



Disks are 24K gold plated, audiophile design, with black/gold song titles on disk.

An absolute knockout 155+ minutes and an instant Hall-of-Famer.



According to collectors, the CDs are of excellent quality.

However, as usual, the track list is somewhat off.



On Disk 1, track 17 is both track 17 and 18.

There is no gap or track number change between tracks.



On Disk 2, tracks 3 is both 3 and 4.

The rest of the tracks are then off by one.

Also, a hidden track appears: The last track on disk 2 is "Crash On The Levee" with Bob Dylan.

Crash Coffin - Crash Coffin (1970 us rural acid psychedelic - Radioactive edition - FLAC)

The self-titled debut album by this Ohio based songwriter was released privately on the Mus-i-Col label in 1970 backed by a full band.

All copies that exist have unique sleeves made by Crash himself. The actual finished sleeves he claimed were destroyed by fire, but he likes a tale to tell!

Truth is, the cost of producing finished sleeves proved to be too expensive! Reviews claim the music to be rural acid psychedelia.

Well maybe… really, he's a living history of American popular music!

It's easy to hear how much he admires Elvis. Several of the songs, particularly the tender ballad 'Lilly,' show the King is an influence, but there's also Dylan too, with his humorous take on the issues of the time.

Women's Liberation, space travel, and religion all get the 'Crash' treatment, with the confident support of rock 'n'roll, blues, country and jug band styles.

Each of the ten tracks exhibit a fine grasp of song craft, are very musical, and certainly entertaining listening. The man himself remains an enigma."

Crash Coffin is a fellow from Ohio who put together a band and recorded ten of his songs on a local label back in 1970.

Crash had a good grasp on singing, storytelling and songwriting as well as a working knowledge of various musical genres.

This CD contains "Masochist Blues" and "the Looney Polka" as well as eight others that are not as readily pegged as belonging to a particular musical style.

One song, "Freedom Cake," could have given the Lovin' Spoonful some serious competition in the jug band pop field.

Crash had a strong and smooth voice with plenty of Elvis that crept in around the edges.

This is actually a pretty good record that I've gone back to more than once.

I especially like the closing track, a rambling folk pop ditty about Jesus stealing his "Blue Kazoo."

Mr. Coffin did individual artwork for the covers of the few copies of the LP that actually made it into the hands of the public because he couldn't afford to have the covers printed.

It's a shame because this could have been a popular record with a little support from a label. (P. Edwin Letcher)
